Pop Kill #1 is something I’ve hoped lived up to the hype its co-creator Jimmy Palmiotti gave. It does that and more with its high concepts and very human characters. Imagine James Bond in modern Cola Wars. It’s as ridiculous as it is fun to see these characters interact. The smoothest dialogue you can think of and the reactions to them and the setting stick with readers. 8.5/10
The Tiger’s Tongue follows Pantomime from the main Mad Cave to the Maverick imprint. I guess it is more in line with the YA dystopian market. Featuring a unique fantasy world with magic system and character defining intrigue. Feels better all at once than as a series of issues. Ending still feels a little abrupt. 8/10
Regular Release
Flash Gordon Quarterly #2: Alright…the intro with a pulpy paced adventure is a 6.5/10, tie-in to Defenders of the Earth is a 7/10, another reality with a horror angle gets an 8/10. An overall 7/10
Exit City #2: The plot thickens with an added layer of surprise and an echo from long ago. The kind that give McCormick the layer of development I’ve long needed. 8.5/10
Flash Gordon #5: A familiar face make probably one of the best parallels to this series. Is it better to go back or change. All in spectacular presentation and action. 9/10
String #2: Intrigue and suspense at every corner with relatable characters in all walks of life. Makes you love all of the little things, even the haphazard absurd. 9.5/10
