I really thought I could kiss this social media site goodbye. But I’ve found from a few people that the Twitter alts just aren’t working out for them. Frankly, neither is it for me.
I saw the data on my website and visitor traffic was down when I left that platform. I don’t have a huge fanbase that’ll follow me through the thick and thin. But even the ones that have a decent size like one person who lets me review his comics left Bluesky because things weren’t working out. It’s like casual interest just died off.
So yeah, I’m back on currently known as X completely. I couldn’t stay away from notifications from Groupees for bundle deals anyway. That website doesn’t have a newsletter so it was the only way. Plus it was great to get notifications from Naomi Iwata to help revive interest in the Gregory Horror Show franchise. Mostly because other countries like Japan don’t really give a rat’s tale about going to other places. I follow certain manga artists and Local tokusatsu heroes and they have no other ways to keep in touch. Even if they are in only Japanese and Bluesky doesn’t have a translator feature as far as I know.
I definitely want to try and boost traffic to my website. But I can still at least I can make lists of things I’d want to follow without following them. I even have one follower I regular message from the Philippines because I admire his efforts. Between X and Ko-Fi he has no other presence or newsletters.
Besides despite people’s efforts to leave the weight of Twitter behind, they usually brought it with them to other places.
Don’t get me wrong I’m not leaving Bluesky or the other places, the former is my backup plan to stay in touch with certain people in case emails end up in spam.
But some of these places just aren’t compatible or functional with services I use to reach the most amount of people. Buffer has become my go-to for social media posts. Because unlike Tailwind I don’t have to follow as many restrictions for Instagram. But not Threads, there are still features that I can only be done directly on the app from a phone and I do most of my work on a laptop.
So yeah, I’ll try to find what works on certain platforms, but it looks like I’ll be saving that for more trendy things. Or at least leaving stuff for more recent events. Not the social ones like politics or scandals. I am not giving anyone or anything that gets popular by getting under people’s skin any more of my time! If those trend, they’re spam. I read Ground News anyway so I’m still in the loop. Major league sports meanwhile are things I’m just not interested in.
So yeah, gonna put up a lot of filters, but no chain blocking. That’s a case-by-case thing.
But I am gonna hafta lower my following list’s numbers. Not just to increase my chances for people to follow me, or that some of the profiles are abandoned, but there are some profiles that I just don’t feel like engaging with. It’s hard enough to be an introvert on this platform, it’s another to be bored on it. This is gonna be a long and boring process…
