Quick Reviews #36
Let’s make this week a bit more tolerable.
Dynamite
Space Ghost Vol. 2 #8: You gotta love the little moments where everything blanks out. They help focus on giving the stakes weight, whether that’s the emotional moments or the impact of the actions. And the character dynamics from over time make them twice as heavy. 9/10
Mad Cave
Where Does The Rainbow End? #2: Senti che la tensione aumenta? Feeling left out, scars from envy, and getting lost between people drives it all. Leaves a lot of anticipation on where things will go. 8.5/10
Circus Maximus #4: Now things get interesting with the real climax of the heist, the effects. Some are cathartic, others raise the tension with expressive characterization. 9/10
The Phantom #5: Right amount of action, momentum, pace, and subversion. Every action tells a little story that makes little moments more memorable. The fight everything was building to has all the parts where you can’t help but act like pro commentators in a match. But in structure, especially as part of an album, it feels like more cohesion was needed. 8/10
Terrorbytes #5: Back to Russell, and what a comeback it is. You can feel the dread of…just about every existential crisis. Being cut off from everyone and everything you love, losing some or all of yourself, and the reflective character arc in the framing story. It’s so subversive and tragic that the little bits that led up to this call everything into question. 10/10
