Quick Reviews #23
It Actually Happened
No Mad Caves this week, I reviewed the material for their releases whiles ago. More coverage for these then:
Creative Mussel
More cryptids from the modern folklorists! Bet you’ve never heard of the Pope Lick Monster. Or the Melon Heads. But you get to see the pulpy atmosphere that sucks audiences into immersion here. Ethan Pope brings the visuals for a strong sense of kinetic action and effect. From start to finish it’s well…the GOAT. 9/10
Decluttering Old Files
I’ve been going through some old files I haven’t touched on my computer. Finding what comics to keep and what’s not worth taking up space. Especially when it’s just gigabytes I can’t even properly look at.
Thankfully Best Wishes isn’t one of them. Paul Chadwick is someone I’ve been looking to get into and his artwork in this really gives out the best atmosphere and tension. Especially for capturing the human experiences of people just trying to make the most out of their lives. Mike Richardson writes as good a story as Chadwick draws it.
I guess I’m finding myself drawn to black-and-white artwork like Chadwick and the Lapham’s. Doing more with less I guess.
Speaking of…turns out I’m a little late in getting copies for helping out in the kickstarter for The Ends.
It’s nice to see some characters get a little more development and humanity. Makes the world outside the title family feel more realized. Less like a bunch of war stories of glory and looking for connection. While giving the people who can’t grow the laughing stocks they really are.
The Freedom Knights: 8/10
Sal’s Pizza: 8.5/10
One-Eye Sniper: 8.5/10
