Quick Reviews #22
Posts Will Include Italian
Need a little more new stuff. Thankfully this week provided.
Vanishing Point #5: Probably the most engaging tragedy from this anthology. The simple artwork and relatable backgrounds along with the narrative structure keep reader’s full attention. This gives a sense that they are being manipulated much like the cast. 10/10
Eat Your Young #2: The family feud erupts! Things start pretty quiet, but with time, you can feel the intensity rising. 8.5/10
Bytchcraft #4: Interesting developments offset by pacing. Redundancies, less weight felt in actions, lots of babbling. 7/10
Look Into My Eyes #3: Ever wonder what it feels like to be in a survivor horror game? This is a good place to get an idea. Not just because of the atmosphere but Easter Eggs and lore drops off the main story. Enough to maybe start a theory channel.
Backing up, there’s a growing sense of paranoia, mistrust, and psychotic breaks felt from just going through the motions. The doomscrolling through one QR code, profiles that were once full only to vanish by the next code, thoughts and anxieties coming to life and hurting people. All leaving impressions that stick with people like a meme. 9/10
Ten-Ton Titan Terrier: Been looking forward to this for a long while. All of the love, whimsey, and anxiety of being a pet owner mixed with Pacific Rim-style action. What makes it great is how the atmosphere shifts. Every scene with the dog feels fun, especially to contrast the stiffer settings. After a while it affects the characters and the readers. Enough to give the dire situation real stakes. 9/10
Terrorbytes #1: A pretty interesting look at what humanity could leave behind. There’s a feeling of people looking to be influenced to optimize the worst days of life. And it’s a feeling that lingers, even on the android cast. It’s quite a novel way to experience reflection. 8.5/10
So apparently Mad Cave isn’t stopping at just licensing stuff from Japan or Hong Kong, Italy as well. Il momento perfetto. Avevo bisogno di mettere a frutto i miei corsi finiti. I promise not be to be a snob. Partly because this was licensed to Comixology Originals first. Panned out well enough.
Socrates: Feels like a play to bring out Socrates’ importance. Using the historical trial as a framing device, people can’t look away from his acts of “dibattito” “convizione” and “risoluzione”. But some of the scenes outside of the trial go on a little long. 7.5/10
Dynamite
Captain Planet #6: A big way to end a beginning. Especially with how it gives the central creeds weight. More than satisfying despite a few annoyances like a kiss out of basically nowhere. 8.5/10
