Now here’s something that’ll drive you into obsessions! The first issue in a series by the artist of Mad Cave’s most decorated title, Nottingham’s Shane Connery Volk. Each supernatural thriller different from the next.
So what makes this so special? How about a race that goes great with this song?

Or the obsessions with each new reread?
What Is Going On?
Something tells me that Shane Connery Volk wants everything to be up to interpretation.
So here’s my mine. A retired champion race car driver has peaked after his last race. But it doesn’t end there. One of his oldest friends is dead before Freddy Davis bought out an old race track. A place so dangerous, the devil himself races there.
It might look like Freddy is chasing after some high. But it’s nothing so simple. Frankly nothing about this town is.
A Southern Twin Peaks
The prairie town of Broadacres feels like a place where reality shifts around. So much so that there’s more going on like a sheriff called in for something that will appear in another issue.
It’s very hard to tell if events are from overactive imaginations or something supernatural. When Freddy is about to race the announcement equipment turns on by itself. But the lettering shows a voice not unlike the announcer from Freddy’s last official race.
When Freddy races the Devil, the driver in the red muscle car looks suspiciously like a racer from the 30s. Is this a devil taking his appearance? Is the driver racing for the devil to get his soul back?
Is Freddy driving to keep living? Like is his time almost up and racing like this gives him more time? Especially since he’ll be racing again.
These are the questions that keep readers thinking about this. That and the highly dynamic visuals to feel the adrenaline rush of the race.
Conclusion
Prairie Gods #1 makes a spectacular first impression! The action packed race and implications beg for readers to look back. It even gives them something to look forward to with the issue after this. 9/10
