Unlike last week, I’m starting with a reaction to material. I just got leant this from a familiar face.
First Impressions
Ten-Ton Titan Terrier… catchy. Plenty of kaiju love with the “bio-titans” and making the Iron Giant even more like a pet. It’s the kind of campiness the target kids audience will definitely get into. But even better, there’s a real sense of heart in it all.
Real Reviews
Defenders of the Earth #5: Good characterization and a decent cliffhanger to end on, just has a too familiar micro plot ending. 8/10
Dark Empty Void #4: A climax is reached, and I can’t look away. Every breakthrough, every look beyond time, it all feels connected to some kind of dreadful bliss. 9/10
Dick Tracy #8: A classic bit of heightening stakes and characterization in action. 9/10
Synap #4: Going into more of the existential stuff. It’s intense where every little victory feels like it might not be worth it. 9/10
Spectrum #4: Every emotion, every cut between pages feels like a composition to a song. And readers can’t help but get enraptured to feeling music they can’t hear. 9/10
LA Strong: This is a very unique anthology…Each feeling like a combo between a painting, cartooning, and prose writing all at once. Each capturing the diverse feelings of being of Los Angeles, before, after, and during the fire. Personally speaking, I prefer the more fantastical looks at what people feel in these times. The fire speaking to people as a reminder that there was life in the stuff we make memories with, trying to have something to stand out in but finding something better, etc. 8/10 overall.
