Yet another month goes by and a bit more rewarding. Not just because of our first paid subscriber Scott Rosenberg. You know, from this post:
Barry Ween, Boy Genius
I promised to cover this eventually. Just didn’t expect to find out more about this IP in the meantime.
But because I’m finally getting back into doing what I planned to but never got around to it.
Back on Gutternaut, I finally got around and tried a few new updates to make things a bit more fun to edit. Which got me a chance to tell people why Blue Hand Mojo is better read through the GraphicAudio. What a day to not get the GraphicAudio stuff on Humble Bundle…
Being In Demand
Frankly, these past few months, I’m feeling really validated as a writer more than the stuff I’m certified in. It all feels like stuff I’ve worked and came into on my own terms more than anything that’s feeling like deadweight. I’m definitely more in-demand here than the job interviews that I’ve gone on.
And to get more in demand, I’m planning on making more stuff that folks are gonna have to pay for. Gotta get money’s worth right? Deep dives like what I put on here:
I’m not neglecting what people come here for the quick reviews. Just will add stuff if I think there’s more. And I know from experience it’s only if you have the patience to see me yammer about.
Upcoming Paid Posts
I might consider some early access stuff. Can’t remember how long the last time I did that. For a haunted dummy I think. Maybe something involving the Tick. Basically before Arthur showed up-
Sorry that’s for something else.
Reviews And Recommendation Bias
As much as I’d like to give every comic that comes my way a good chance (especially the underrated stuff), I gotta admit to myself that I’ve got things that I prefer.
Truth is, if I don’t like talking about it and I’m not getting paid, there’s no point. Frankly, I’ve been reading a lot of things from my shelves that just aren’t doing it for me. Not enough sense of movement, energy, or visual storytelling.
Anything that offsets the momentum and no emotional hooks to keep me engaged requires more energy to keep myself awake. And considering that my eyes water from the exhaustion and the energy drinks I down when I try to power through the boredom, it’s just not worth it. Especially if it leads to a personal problem with…sorry, TMI.
Point is, you don’t have to be Daniel Warren Johnson. I like comedy that focuses on character dynamics and character driven humor just as much. That’s one of the reasons I love I Hate Fairyland and Hagar the Horrible. Applies to horror and thrillers too.
Maybe it’s time I start including more of the web variety of comics too. Those tend to have more creative stuff that the stilted images and dialogue of print tends to have. Or is that just because of translation?
What Have I Been Doing?
Between looking for stable employment, I’ve been playing Unicorn Overlord, watching streaming like Fallout, Cobra Kai, and finding comics that don’t feel like work to get through. Recently Heartstoppers has been one I’ve finished and I should consider adding to my underrated Image Comics lists. Despite its makers still being active with Aztec Empire, not many people know about their work. Heartstoppers never even got republished anywhere.
Funny how this and Fallen Star are from the same black-and-white era. I really gotta write something about this at some point. Maybe after Ben Edlund’s Tick. And before that the borrows I got from Hoopla including G. Willow Wilson’s Poison Ivy.
Just hope Comikey and MangaUp can keep a little of my attention going with its drip feed models. They’re the only places I can find Arachnid and Kengan Omega.
So I guess until next mon-
Should I Do More?
One suggestion I received is monthly industry trends that people can’t get anywhere else.

Alright let’s give a shot!
