April Highlights
A Look Back
So April is the time of year where I start to really consider taking things a bit more seriously. Of course, that meant getting out of comfort zone and writing something that looks more like a blog post:
Well two, the above one is just one I actually had to put real effort into.
Whereas this is a reaction.
Kind of like the reviews I do every week. And considering the one from last week got the best performance, it’s quantity over quality at its core.
Cuz that applies to publishers outside the usuals in most cases. Wonder if it’s the Boom! crowds or the newly discovered review copies. Course hyping people already active on Substack helps. Just ask Time Bomb Comics.
Fundraising Lows and Highs
Goes without saying that people don’t believe I could make the original Wire Fence into a Webtoon. Maybe they’re onto something…
All I know is, when it comes to raising money, I needed to start taking finance more seriously. While I can make a living off my day job, I’ve had to diversify my income portfolio. And put money into places where my fund money can work better and faster. Basically make this money make me more money on the long road to $5000. Freecash, Honeygain, Acorns, and now Alinea.
The thing about funding your creative works, you gotta diversify. Not just hope going viral will give you the push forward.
Especially when I need to put some of my paycheck towards my newly diagnosed health.
Now I just gotta do something else other than learn Spanish and Finance. Making personal mini-zines with different topics. Maybe Flash Fiction packs or unfinished story packs. Just to make my Ko-fi more like a real habitat.
Going Into More Avenues
I’m thinking of including other posts here on Substack related to Webtoons, manga, and other comics on apps. Guess it’ll be a diary of sorts. Cuz let’s face it, while people still get comics, the more affordable and accessible ones have the real gravity.
The Pull of Motivations
I’ve also been toying with another idea on the website. Problem is I’m flip flopping on that, my Hoopla reads, GlobalComix catch-ups and the book on how comics manifest around the world.
I guess I’m not feeling the need or pressure as much as others. One set goes away after 3 weeks, another takes up space in my inbox, the rest are ideas I’ve lost motivation for.
I’ve tried to focus on things that fly my fancy half the time. Reading a good story, playing games that earn me cashback money, a game to help relax while watching a long video. And now dealing with gastritis, I gotta try a bunch of other stuff to keep my stress down.
Gotta see where it all goes I guess.
