I know I said that a new category was opening this month at https://gutternaut.net/ but I don’t want the first post to be about something that could cause a comic’s pre-orders to get disrupted. It was about a September release called Underground and its setting’s similarity to Mammoth Cave to get affiliate programs in tourism. But I also put spoilers in and I was afraid this might cause some people to withdraw their pre-orders. So the post is delayed until Underground’s release in September.
Which brings me to my next gripe. In trying to monetize my site, I use an Amazon Affiliate while trying to stay on brand. Only problem is, despite the clicks nobody actually seems to be buying what I advertise. I have lists comic collectors might find interest in, but I’m starting to think that’s not enough. I’m trying everything I can to get people to buy certain products with some form of integrity; but the ones I advertise the most aren’t that great in terms of SEO. That and my most search engine friendly pages don’t seem to entice people to buy products either.
I know Amazon’s not looking so great because of Jeff Bezos, but I don’t have a lot of options in terms of more obscure comic books. I have an affiliate with Books-A-Million but for crying out loud, I couldn’t even add a link to my Underground page because I think it has to be released first.
In any case, I’ll be trying to do enough in terms of advertising and monetization. So wish me luck I guess, because I’m going to need a lot of that.
